So, New York got a full-blown socialist for a governor, and now a transgender communist in Idaho wants to try the same thing here.

Maxine Durand openly identifies as a socialist. He claims both Democrats and Republicans are failing, but what he’s really saying is that Idaho needs to be remade in the image of California and Washington.

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance has warned for years that leftists have their sights set on our state. Their goal is simple: drag Idaho down the same path as every other progressive stronghold.

And now, one of the Democratic Socialists of America’s candidates wants to lead Idaho?

For those unfamiliar, here are just a couple of the DSA’s positions on the Second Amendment:

Durand’s own website doesn’t even bother to spell out a clear position on the Second Amendment. The only mention is a vague blurb about “universal hunter’s education, gun safety, and permitting.”

Here’s what it says:

An expansion to current gun safety and hunter’s education courses to include first aid and CPR certification, mental health first aid training, de-escalation, and emergency management training, so that Idaho gun owners are trained on not only how to utilize their rights under the Second Amendment, but also understand the responsibility of gun ownership and have the additional training and resources to help others in times of emergency. Funding would be allocated to make this program free of charge to any Idaho resident who wants to utilize it.

We kid you not, this is presented as a serious Second Amendment policy.

What is it with everything being “universal,” “free,” and “paid for by taxpayers”? That’s the socialist playbook: promise handouts, demand more government control, and erode individual freedom.

The problem with socialism and communism is that both eventually require total government control. And to get that control, the government must be the only one with guns. That’s why socialists and communists always push to ban private firearm ownership.

The truth is simple: every “free” program they dangle in front of voters comes at the barrel of a gun. The Second Amendment stands in their way, and that’s why they want it gone.

Idaho has always been a state where freedom comes first. If we allow socialist candidates to gain power here, we risk losing the very rights that make Idaho different. The fight for the Second Amendment isn’t just about guns; it’s about whether the people or the government holds the power. And as long as the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance has a voice, we’ll make sure that power stays where it belongs: with the people.
