Idaho is one of the strongest states in the nation for gun rights. But that doesn’t mean the work is done, not even close.
Yes, we’ve already secured the big wins. We’re not fighting over Constitutional Carry, Open Carry, magazine bans, or rifle bans like other states. But that doesn’t mean Idaho is perfect, and it certainly doesn’t mean we can sit back and coast. If we aren’t pushing forward, we’re falling behind.
There are plenty of “small” fixes that make a big difference, and we must stay vigilant to ensure bad ideas don’t creep in. The ISAA doesn’t wait around hoping someone else will lead. We take action, we push pro‑gun legislation, and we hold elected officials to the highest standard.
Below are just a few of the ideas circulating in the Capitol right now, not a complete list, but a strong snapshot of what we’re fighting for:
- Stand Your Ground Immunity and Reimbursement
- Preemption Penalties
- Preemption Overhaul
- Campus Carry Reform (remove dorm exemptions and strip authority from college boards)
- Enhanced Permit Training Requirement Fixes
- Sales Tax Holiday for Firearms & Ammunition
- Sales Tax Credit for Firearms & Ammunition
- Employee Protections for Gun Owners
- Ban Financial Institutions from Discriminating Against Gun Owners
- Strengthen Penalties in the Second Amendment Preservation Act
- Automatic Weapons (details coming soon)
Most of these should be easy wins. Only a couple will require a heavier lift. And that’s exactly why the current situation is so frustrating: the legislature has been slow to act, and even slower to lead.
This session is our chance to change that. It’s an election year, the pressure is high, and gun owners are watching.
Let’s turn up the heat and get more done for Idaho gun owners than we have in years.

I love it all! Let’s git er dun.
I’m with you!
Fight for it all and uphold The United States Constitution and Bill of Rights as written!!! Fight against the Infringements on the peoples RIGHTS.
there differently needs to be a employee protection act. keep liberal west cist company from banning firearms in your private vehicle on there property.
It’s imperative that we continue to recondition the public from all the brainwashing (CA,OR,WA) about firearms. We should do more open carry rallys quarterly. It’s important to show how large the 2A community is here.
