North Carolina could be the 30th Constitutional Carry state if the state legislature overrides their Democratic governor’s veto.
North Carolina is one of the few states that doesn’t have either a Republian or Democrat trifecta. The legislature is controlled by Republicans, while the governor’s seat is controlled by Democrats.
H.B. 50, North Carolina’s Constitutional Carry bill was vetoed by Governor Josh Stein.
The North Carolina State Senate has already overridden his veto, but the House has yet to vote, although one is expected later this month.
Unfortunately, the House is one Republican short of a supermajority that is needed to override the veto. That means at least one Democrat will be needed to make it happen.
We aren’t sure if a Democrat has ever voted for a Constitutional Carry bill anywhere in the U.S. None voted for it in Idaho and four “Republicans” at the time voted against it.
Do you think North Carolina will overturn the governor’s veto?
