ISAA Calls Out City of Eagle for Illegal Firearm Restriction

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance has formally notified the city of Eagle about a violation of Idaho’s firearm preemption statute (18-3302J) at its public archery range.

Since 2013, ISAA has worked with cities and counties across Idaho to update ordinances and remove signage that conflicts with state law. To date, we’ve helped correct nearly 100 violations—whether through ordinance changes or the removal of anti-gun signs.

This latest issue was brought to our attention by several members and supporters who spotted a sign at Eagle’s archery range that firearms and weapons are not permitted on the premises.

Now, if we’re being facetious—bows are technically weapons too. So does that mean bows are banned from the archery range?

Of course not. The city clearly intended the space to be used for archery only, and that’s perfectly reasonable. But what’s not allowed is a blanket ban on weapons, especially firearms, on public property. Idaho law is crystal clear: cities cannot regulate the possession of firearms.

Many Idahoans carry sidearms while bow hunting, and they have every right to do so—even at an archery range. If the city’s goal is to prevent firearm practice at the range, a more appropriate sign might read: “Archery Range Only.”

We look forward to working with the city of Eagle to resolve this issue and bring the signage into compliance with Idaho law.

How do We the People of Idaho get our Law makers to Ban All Gun Free Zones in Idaho?
I’m very serious, and want to be involved.

The State of Idaho has already banned gun free zone that contain PUBLIC PROPERTY also called PUBLIC DOMAIN. The Idaho Code does not allow jurisdictions within Idaho prohibiting gun rights from said locations. It is a crime to do so.

Idaho Freedom Foundation (IFF) is a great place to start.
ADA County Central Committee (Ryan Spoon) is another. ACRCC has meeting at ADA County courthouse first Thursday of Month at 6:30.
Lots of people engage legislators there. Just ask for Ryan.
