Connecticut Greenlights Legal Attacks on Gun Makers

Connecticut’s governor has signed a bill into law that will allow lawsuits against firearm manufacturers.

Governor Ned Lamont (D) has signed HB 7042, which goes into effect on October 1. Connecticut is the latest state to take aim at the Second Amendment by increasing lawfare efforts to shut down manufacturers.

The bill allows victims of violence where a firearm was used to sue the manufacturers or even the gun shop owners potentially. If the manufacturers or gun shops don’t reasonably control the advertising or selling of firearms in a way that the state, a city, or a person doesn’t like, lawsuits are bound to flood the courts.

You can expect the trial lawyers to have a hayday with this bill.

While Connecticut politicians just opened the floodgates for lawsuits against gun manufacturers, Idahoans know better. We don’t punish lawful businesses for the actions of criminals—we protect the rights of families, hunters, and small-town dealers who keep our traditions alive.

This is why we fought against Sen. Kevin Cook’s (R – Idaho Falls) cell phone bill. He wanted the state to be able to sue cell phone manufacturers if the state felt the phone manufacturers didn’t adequately do enough to prevent pornography from getting into the hands of minors.

The ISAA and Boise Black Rifle pointed out that that mentality is the exact same thinking that gun grabbers use to justify going after firearm manufacturers. Thankfully, we have killed Cook’s bill over the last two years.

Even if Cook’s intentions are not to harm gun manufacturers, his legislation could easily be used as the basis for going after firearm manufacturers.
