Saint Luke’s is the largest healthcare system in Idaho, and its Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls is no exception when it comes to anti‑gun policies.

Like most major hospitals, St. Luke’s prohibits carrying firearms inside the facility. The policy states (look under “Additional Visitor Guidelines”) specifically:

“Leave all personal weapons (e.g., pocket knives, guns, etc.) at home or in your vehicle. Do not bring these items into any St. Luke’s facility.”

On top of that, the hospital has multiple anti‑gun signs posted, and these aren’t the usual small 8×11 notices you see at most locations. One of the signs at St. Luke’s is several feet tall and several feet wide, by far the largest anti‑gun sign we’ve seen anywhere in Idaho. The photo is included at the end of this article.

Are signs like this supposed to stop someone intent on harming others? Even more surprising, St. Luke’s doesn’t want women carrying pepper spray or a taser for self‑defense. Those aren’t even lethal weapons, yet the hospital lumps them in with firearms.

Hospitals are one of the few places where gun owners can’t simply “go somewhere else.” Every major hospital posts the same anti‑gun signs, leaving Idahoans stuck with whatever restrictions the facility decides to impose.

There was a rumor that this hospital had metal detectors, but at least at the main entrance, that was not the case.

Gun owners deserve to know which institutions still cling to the failed idea of “Gun‑Free Zones,” and the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance will continue documenting them.
