A Coeur d’Alene music event, Music at McEuen, has been exposed for its absurd anti‑gun policy thanks to former State Senator and current Republican nominee for State Senate, Scott Herndon.

Herndon posted a video on X showing exactly how meaningless the event’s “No Weapons Allowed” rule really is. In the video, he walks straight into the venue, which is surrounded by nothing more than orange mesh fencing. He isn’t checked for firearms. He isn’t wanded. He isn’t searched. Nothing at all is done to verify whether anyone entering is armed.

Yet the event prominently displays signs declaring “No Weapons Allowed.”

As always, criminals aren’t going to follow those signs. And anyone intent on doing serious harm could walk right through the flimsy barrier without resistance. The only people who would obey the rule are the very Idahoans who aren’t the problem, turning them into soft targets inside a pretend “secured” area.

This is exactly what the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance has warned about for years. If cities cannot ban guns on public property, how can a private organization be granted the authority to ban guns on public property when the government itself does not have that authority? How is it not the law that private organizations must respect the same rights that cities and counties are required to respect?

Unfortunately, the Idaho Supreme Court disagreed. In 2023, the Court ruled that when a city leases, rents, or otherwise signs a napkin for public property to a private group, that property becomes “private” for the duration of the event. That ruling effectively gutted Idaho’s firearm preemption law and opened the door for private organizations to impose gun bans on public land that taxpayers fund and maintain.

Shame on the organizers of Music at McEuen for creating a fake “gun‑free zone” that does nothing but make Idaho families a target.

Herndon says in his post that he attends to fight against these types of events from having gun bans.
