Almon’s Idaho GOP Platform Rewrite Collapses After ISAA Sounds the Alarm

Please see the full email below in response to Gem State Chronicle’s Editor Brian Almon, who decided it was time to take a dig at the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance.

Alright, I rarely spend time responding to nonsense from the RINO crowd, but this one deserves a spotlight.

It’s always amusing when newcomers to Idaho politics, especially those who just arrived from failed states, try to lecture me about how the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance is useless. ISAA members have been fighting for Idaho gun owners for over a decade, long before some of these folks even knew where Idaho was on a map.

And this past weekend, ISAA members proved exactly why we matter.

At the Idaho GOP convention, our members helped crush a proposal that would have gutted every specific pro‑Second Amendment protection in the party platform. The proposal came from Brian Almon of the Gem State Chronicle, who wanted to “streamline” the platform, which apparently meant deleting the backbone of Idaho’s 2A stance.

The Idaho GOP overwhelmingly rejected his rewrite.

Almon, who moved here from Washington and has been trying to reinvent himself as some kind of political sage, wasn’t thrilled. He’s a paid Idaho GOP employee who launched the Gem State Chronicle to push a more moderate, establishment‑friendly narrative. And when his proposal got obliterated, he lashed out.

Here’s part of what he wrote:

“By Friday evening, however, I could see that my proposal was being used as a weapon of division by a small but loud cadre of confrontational-politics enthusiasts.

Greg Pruett resurrected his Idaho Second Amendment Alliance brand long enough to send an email… accusing me of watering down the party’s position on gun rights, which was absurd, of course.

The new proposal included the very words ‘shall not be infringed’ — but people will do anything for clicks these days.”

Let’s break down his spin.

First, the ISAA has been around far longer than Almon has even lived in Idaho. Our members are loyal, fierce, and uncompromising. The ISAA brand still exists, and always will. Almon would know that if he weren’t so busy chasing access to politicians.

Second, Almon didn’t just water down the 2A section; he watered down the entire platform. But gun rights are where I focus, and his rewrite was a disaster.

He claims he kept “shall not be infringed,” but here’s what he actually wrote:

“We believe in all the rights guaranteed by the Constitution with equal fervor… including the right of the individual to keep and bear arms… These rights come from God and must be guaranteed and not be infringed.”

So, according to Almon, the Second Amendment doesn’t even deserve its own section. It’s just another bullet point in a generic list. That’s not defending gun rights, that’s burying them.

And when it came to legislative priorities, here’s a complete list of what Almon thought deserved specific attention:

  • Income Tax
  • Property Tax
  • Right to Life
  • School Choice
  • Medicaid Reform
  • Immigration Enforcement
  • Youth Employment
  • Occupational Licensing
  • Water
  • Energy Independence
  • Defend the Guard
  • Reduce Spending
  • Sound Money
  • Housing
  • Article V
  • Education Accreditation
  • Medical School

Notice anything missing?

Gun rights.
The Second Amendment.
The issue he claims he “cares about.”

But hey, at least he made room for “Medical School” and “Education Accreditation.”

His excuses don’t add up because they’re not meant to. This was a deliberate attempt to weaken the platform while pretending to “simplify” it.

Finally, Almon whines about “confrontational politics,” using the same tired line the establishment always uses when grassroots conservatives refuse to bow to them. If defending Idaho from moderates who want to soften our platform makes me “confrontational,” then I’ll wear that label proudly.

I’m honored to stand with Idaho gun owners who refuse to compromise, who refuse to kiss the establishment’s ring, and who understand that bold action, not appeasement, is what keeps Idaho free.
